shakespeare Mac Beth

MacBeth

My initial response to Macbeth was that this process is going to be lengthy, challenging and will require focus and patience. There are multiple themes that run throughout the play these include; ambition, fate, murder, greed and madness. Shakespeare's plays usually fit into these three categories; comedy, tragedy and romantic. In my opinion this play is a tragedy.
The way our tutor organised this is that the class was split into three casts and we will tour secondary schools and perform, i also heard through the grape vine talk of performing at chislehurt caves! Hopefully that will happen as the reverb of performing in a cave will make our voices amplified and echoed.
My characters are Lady MACDuff, ensemble and Witch 1.

To begin with getting to grips with the language we tried to translate the text in to modern language to help us understand the story line and objective in each scene. From my new understanding the play is about a Scottish Army man who receives a fortune telling from three witches who predict that he will be the king of Scotland.  Overcome by determination, greed and prompting from his wife; Macbeth kills King Duncan and claims the crown for himself. Mac beth and lady macbeth become consumed with guilt. The witches predict he can not be killed by anyone born by natural birth, Macduff was born by a c- section and kills Macbeth in revenge after Macbeth killed his wife and kids.

Our group was called the blue group and we were the first to Perform. The first steps we took as a group to ensure a smooth rehearsal period is vote for our rehearsal captain. Majority of group voted for Danielle. I also agreed that Danielle should be our rehearsal captain/ director because she is sensible, organised and responsible. We created a social media group chat to keep us all informed about rehearsal times, and it was also a platform for discussing the show outside of college. I feel like  every member of our group (except one)  equally contributed ideas and work.
Our first rehearsal was just a read through of the script as a group, everyone read the lines they had been cast. This was a good way to get to grips with the language before we worried about the physical stuff.
For the next few rehearsals after this we focused on the blocking of the scene, making sure everybody knew where and when to exit and and enter. At this point we hadn't really decided on a theme or style for our show, we where just beginning to understand the plot and the subtext beneath each line. During rehearsals we found it hard to stay focused sometimes as we were unsupervised for majority of the rehearsal progress. However Danielle would usually remind us of the importance of using the time wisely. My group and I spend a good couple hours putting thought towards the production of our show. When it came to costume and music; everybody contributed. I really enjoyed working with my team simply because it was a democracy, everybodies voice is was listened too, and no ones idea was completely scrapped. Our group did very well at compromising and adapting. This project was especially difficult as our beloved tutor had fallen unwell and had to take some time on leave. However our team adapted to the changes in the college environment very well.
